4 Thorough Steps to Help Clear Your Mind

Are you having a hard time keeping a clear and peaceful mind? Sometimes when life pulls you in so many directions, your mind starts overthinking, leaving it overwhelmed and even confused. If thats the case for you, there is no reason to feel helpless. There are many mental and physical exercises you can do to help you clear your mind and give you a mental refresh. Here are my five favorite:

  1. Try guided meditation: Meditation is a powerful tool to help you refresh your mental state of mind. Choosing the right meditation for you is the crucial first step. I recommend finding a quick 10 to 15 meditation intended for calming and clearing the mind, dimming the lighting in your room, and finding somewhere comfortable to sit or lay down.
  2. Take a nap: Some people feel like a completely new person after a rejuvenating nap. I recommend keeping the nap no longer than an hour and 15 minutes long, in order to avoid the post-nap grogginess that may muddle your thoughts rather than helping you clear your headspace.
  3. Journaling your thoughts: Sometimes when you’reĀ feeling purposeless or you need to help find direction in your life, writing down your feelings and then making a plan for the future will help you redirect yourself and clear your mind. When we write things down, we transfer them from just existing in our brain into something more real, which helps us process and move on from negative or overwhelming thoughts.
  4. Taking a distraction: Distractions are often viewed as negative, but planned distractions are a great way to redirect our thoughts to a positive place before facing a daunting or complicated task. Some ideas are to go for coffee with a friend or to take an hour to read a book and/or watch something funny on a streaming service.
