Have an upcoming job interview? Interviews are oftentimes daunting and nerve-wracking, so here are 5 tips to help you relieve some nerves and hopefully help you prepare for and ace your interview!

1. Research:

A crucial first step in preparation for an interview involves a deep research on the company and company’s employers. You want to be prepared to ask any questions about the company and the job, and even familiarize yourself so you can answer any questions thrown at you.

2. Practice answering questions with a friend:

If nerves are your enemy, practice answering common interview questions and talking about yourself with a friend. Let your friend pretend to be an interviewer and get accustomed to answering personal and professional questions. The practice will better prepare you and give you confidence that you’re capable before your job interview.

3. Ensure you have everything you need to provide for the interview:

Come prepared! Bring your resume, a notebook, a writing utensil, and a form of personal identification with you (to be safe if asked to show it). Make sure any other additional materials you may need are organized properly in a satchel or backpack to add an aura of professionalism as you make your first impression to your interviewer.

4. Arrive 15 minutes early:

A tried and true interview “ritual”, arriving 15 minutes early to your interview will make sure you are on time and ready for the interviewer when you are summoned. It will also give you time to take deep breaths and settle your nerves, as well as go over any last minutes information if you were asked to prepare anything for the interview.

5. Be concise and authentic:

When answering your interviewer’s questions, be as concise and authentic with your answers as possible. Don’t ramble with your responses or get off-topic, but demonstrate warmth and authenticity in your more personal questions. This will give a professional yet genuine impression of yourself to the interviewer and show you have focus in your prospects for your future.
